Schulenburg Festival Aug.  5, 6, 7, 2011

Bike Bug Rally, Festival & Bike Bug Brother of the Year Award
Reverend John Moore of Schulenburg, Texas Awarded Bike Bug Brother of the Year 2011
Bike Bug Brothers & Sisters - you are invited to honor Rev. Johnny Moore as Bike Bug Brother of the Year during the Schulenburg Festival Aug.  5, 6, 7, 2011 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). We especially hope you can make it for the Grand Parade on Sunday Aug. 7th - Check in is 8:30 to 9:30 AM - Judging at 9:30 AM.  Parade is 1-1/2 miles - starts at corner of Kellett and S. main Street and ends at Wolters Park. Map below.

As you know every year we select a Bike Bug friend as Bike Bug Brother or Sister of the Year. Normally it is someone who has done a good deal for another person or the community with a Bike Bug involved.  Over 10 newspapers and magazines have committed to publishing an article concerning the award so show up and there is a good chance you will have your smiling face in the news.

This year we learned Rev. Moore was financing construction of The Church of the Heart by riding a bicycle with a wagon and collecting recyclable materials and selling them to the local citizens. We visited his collection area and were amazed at how well organized and sorted items were. Generally the local residents shop at his facility before they go to the store.
After we returned we met with several of the Houston Bike Bug Brothers and decided to help the Reverend build that church faster and easier. We rebuilt a Bike Bug engine, refurbished a Worksman Industrial Tricycle and built a 3’ X 6’ trailer on bicycle axles and wheels for the Reverend.

This year we will rally Bike Bug Brothers & Sisters to celebrate the award and take part in the Grand Parade during the Festival. We have sent the attached draft article for publication and so far have confirmed it will be printed in Schulenburg Sticker, Texas Biker Magazine, The Worksman Cycle website, The Motorized Bicycle Company Website, and Bike Bug Website and to be submitted to Texas Monthly Magazine, Austin American Statesman, San Antonio Express, Houston Chronicle, Houston Press, OutdoorMind, and Southwest Cycling News.

We have invited elected dignitaries, civic officials, organizations representatives and prominent clergy to attend and share in the Award ceremony and photo shoot. We have commissioned a Houston Artist to create an item that the Church of The Heart, Schulenburg and Texas will be proud of.

A draft of the article is attached for your review. Of course we don’t have photos of Rev. Moore yet with his new Iron Horse or photos of you during the presentation and Grand Parade in the article yet.

We will be traveling form Houston and will employ a travel van ( 31’ ) with beds for 8, bath, kitchen, refrigerator/ freezer and storage for your convenience. We will do our best to arrange car/ truck pooling for those who wish to share the journey.
